Services for Wylie B. Phillips was held in the Methodist Church. He came to this area in 1909 with his parents when his father filed on land near here. "Uncle Wiley" as he was known by all, was an early-day carpenter here building a number of the early-day houses and business buildings. Much of Wylie Phillips' later years were spent in the cafe business here and his chili was known far and wide. A big, strong, nice-looking man, he was young for his age and activity. A sincerely religious man, he never sold tobacco in his firm nor had "music boxes". He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. His Irish humor, twinkling eyes, ready smile, and love of children set Uncle Wiley apart. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons; two sisters; two brothers.
