William White was a Loyalist in the U.S.A. Revolutionary War. He served in Genl. Skinner's First Battalion New Jersey Volunteers from March 1776 to July 1778 and subsequently in New York in Capt. Chillas's Company. At the close of the war, he, his family, and his brother Vincent also a Loyalist, departed the states with the British army and arrived in New Brunswick (then part of Nova Scotia) in July 1783. Another brother, Philip, also a Loyalist, was either murdered by the rebels or was killed attempting to escape from them near Freehold, NJ in 1782. The Loyalists hung the rebel Captain Joshua Huddy in retaliation for White's death. At least that is what they claimed.
