Mrs. Malinda Barnett, wife of R. W. Barnett, who was taken ill on March 6th with inflammation of the bowels and pleurisy, which developed into pneumonia three days later, died at her home, 1700 South Ohio avenue, at 11:43 o'clock p.m. Tuesday, aged 66 years.
Mrs. Barnett fully realized her serious condition, and was prepared for the Masters call. She was conscious almost to the last, and made disposition of a number of her personal effects to relatives and friends.
Mrs. Barnett was one of Sedalia's most lovable Christian women. In sickness and sorrow, she never failed to do all possible with a view to lessening the burdens of the afflicted, and many a tear will be dropped to her memory by those whom she had befriended during her more than forty years residence in Sedalia.
Mrs. Barnett was born in Gibson county, Ind., July 1, 1842, her maiden name being Malinda Perkins. She was married to Mr. Barnett in Fayette county, Ill., October 26, 1859, and soon afterward united with the Baptist church, of which she remained a consistent member up to the time of her demise.
In 1866, Mr. and Mrs. Barnett removed to Sedalia, where they have resided continuously since, no couple in this city being held in higher esteem.
Nine children were born unto Mr. and Mrs. Barnett, of whom six are living, as follows: Charles E., who is employed as a printer, in Oklahoma; Elbert B., employed as a printer in Kansas City; Nettie Frances, at home; Frank, a secret service officer for The Denver & Fort Worth railway at Fort Worth, Texas; Mrs. Viola Kay, wife of a prominent ranchman near Phoenix, Arizona, and Lillian, at home. The three children dead are John, Annie and James.
Capt. John Perkins, of Liberal, Barton county, a brother of Mrs. Barnett, arrived here last night and was at his sister's bedside when the end came. Elbert, one of the sons, came in from Kansas City at 12:15 o'clock this morning, half an hour after his mother's death.
In compliance with the wishes of Mrs. Barnett, the funeral services will be conducted at the home, the time being 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Frank Y. Campbell, pastor of the First Baptist church, and the Rev. T. B. Fuller, D. D., officiating. Interment will he in the city cemetery. - Sedalia Democrat - Wednesday, March 13, 1907 pg.1
