The former Alma Abler was born May 25, 1931, in Mount Calvary to Stephen & Rose (Krones) Abler. Alma graduated from St. Mary’s Springs Academy.
On October 30, 1954, she married John E. Schmitz at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. Her husband preceded her in death on July 21, 2006.
Alma was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marytown where she also sang on the church choir and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula (Dan) LaBrec of New Holstein “Marytown”; her son, Paul (Becky) Schmitz of Fond du Lac “Johnsburg”; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Sarah) LaBrec, Jennifer (Jon) Pitzen and Rachel & Elisa Schmitz; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Aliyah and Kamryn LaBrec and Everett Pitzen; her sister, Glendola Young of Covelo, CA. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Stephen & Rose Abler; her husband, John E. Schmitz; six sisters and four brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marytown (N10232 County Road G New Holstein, WI 53061). Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap. will officiate. Alma will be laid to rest next to her husband in the parish cemetery.
