Bertram M. Ayala, 67, of O'Fallon, IL, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Cedar Ridge Rehab Center, Lebanon, IL.

He was born March 25, 1949, to George and Janet (nee Bertram) Ayala, in Bay City, MI.

Bertram was proud to be a Marine and of his time served in Vietnam, and loved Notre Dame football and New York Yankee baseball. He was a very loving man and loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bertram took pride in his job at the post office and demanded quality work out of all of his co-workers, as he was the Quality Control Inspector. He retired as the Post Master after many years of service. Bertram enjoyed many hours working in his yard cutting his grass. He loved what Southern California had to offer, especially the beaches.

He is survived by his children, Bradford Ayala and Megan (Kevin) Schaeffer; grandchildren, Nastassja, Miranda, Brooklynne, Baylee, and Madylin; brothers, Richard (Kim) Ayala and Bill (Kary) Ayala; sisters, Isabelle (Mike) Lindauer and Janice Ayala.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Janet Ayala; brother, George Ayala.

The family will greet friends at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Bay County Veterans Council will present Military Honors at 3:00 p.m.
