Obituary for Ruth Mary Hassman

Ruth Mary Hassman, 80, passed peacefully and surrounded by love on July 5th, 2016. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her tenacious spirit and kind heart.

Ruth was born on February 20th, 1936 to Elmer and Mariam Johannes. She was raised in Albia with her sisters, Maxine and Betty Ann, and her brothers, Dale and Michael. She graduated from Albia High School in 1954.

On July 6th, 1957, Ruth married her beloved husband Daryl Hassman. Together they raised their son Todd and daughter Becky, and enjoyed many adventures. Ruth treasured her two grandchildren, Mason and Haley, and cherished the time and laughter she shared with them. Her greatest pride and joy came from being a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Ruth began working at 3M in 1982 as a slitter operator and made many lasting friendships there. She enjoyed trying new recipes, traveling with her husband, and visiting with her dear family, friends and neighbors.

The surviving members of Ruth’s family include her son Todd of Albia, her daughter Becky (Jerry) Flanagan, and grandchildren Mason and Haley of Kellogg.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Daryl, her parents, her four siblings: Maxine, Betty Ann, Dale, and Michael, and her niece Debra Jean Harrison.

Ruth’s family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all the amazing caregivers that shared their love, compassion, and support throughout her courageous journey.
