Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2016. Nathelle Young Swallow Jefferson was born on May 24, 1933 in Crow Agency to Rhoda Blanketbull and Harvey Young Swallow. She was a descendent of Chief Pretty Eagle and in the clan of the Greasy Mouth. Following the passing of her mother, she was adopted by Genevieve Conger who raised her with the help of Agnes and John Holds Sr. Our mother had fond childhood memories of assisting her grandfather White Arm on his train rides to Sheridan, Wyo. for shopping and entertainment. Our mother was introduced to her faith in the Lord as a child when she used to cross the road to the first Baptist church in Lodge Grass. Her faith was strengthened by Albert and Helen (Crooked Arm) Iron. She was given in traditional marriage to McKinnely Iron Sr. and was blessed with McKinnely, Robyn, Calvin, Clinton, Faro, Rhoda, Valerie and Alberta. Mom had many memories of her hard work with local farmers and her time with her mother-in-law Helen.
Following mom’s divorce, she moved back to Lodge Grass to support her father who was in ill health. She married Lester Jefferson Jr. in August 1965 and was blessed with her baby Tina Marie.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Rhoda; her adopted parents Genevieve Conger and Agnes and John Holds; her uncle Ezra Blanket Bull; her sons Robyn and Calvin Iron; her daughter Rhoda Flat lip; her grandsons Harvey and Albert Iron and Andre Fighter; her granddaughters Chastity Doyle, Curtin Iron, Aliyah Task, Sincerely Love Shoulder Blade; her sisters Nora Young Swallow, Joanne Champ, Rita Don’t Mix, Emma Beads, Shirley Not Afraid, Diane Spent and aunt Evelyn Old Elk and brothers Carl and Calvin Lieder, Jacob Big Hair and Andrew Old Elk.
Survivors include her sons McKinney (Valerie), Clinton (Corliss), Faron (Rose), Clinton Jr. (Clarinda), Curtis (Nina) Iron; Harold (Tara), Ervin (Carla), Arnold (Corette) Jefferson; Nathan (Alison) Young Swallow, Carl Curtis (Jill) Alden; Cyrus (Annie) and Calvin Leider, Stevie White Hip. Daughters: Tina (Comrad) Alden, Mary (Dwayne) White; Kristin (Daniel) Iron Road III; Valerie and Alberta Iron; Verena, Rebecca and Jennifer Jefferson; Lydia Hill, Freda Moss, Sandie and Annette Bird; Carla (Bruce) Wells, Deloris (Les) BigSwallow, Veronica (Travis) Braided Hair, Kim (Gary) Scout, Molly (Rex) Davis, Laura Calf Robe, Jackie (Larry) Blacksmith, Cathy (Buster) Gardner, Carmen Laforge, Maria Onion and Jana Little Owl. Special Grandchildren June Castro, LeTonne Yarlott, Helen, Caroline, Robyn Kay, Carimie, Clark, CJ, and Catlin Iron; Candice Taksh, Ashley Old Elk, Taylin and Kenton Alden, Faron Pisano and Nina Rose’ Brothers: Tronson (Lavern), Dennis (Nora), Al (Rubie) Big Hair, John (Larina) Holds, Wallace (Molly), Kevin, Arron (Susie), Marlon (Chrislyn) Red Star. Sisters: Gwendalyn Plain Bull, Mary Carpenter, Wanita Humphry, Jaunita Morning, Mary Hellen Medicine Horse, Velma Fitzpatrick, Dorris Holds, Connie (Kelly) Red Star Price, Walla (Max) Spotted Bear, Rose Bear Crane, Melissa Falls Down and Connie Russell.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the Crow Agency Spirit of Life Foursquare Church. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass Cemetery.  Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
