My great grandfather, Johann Walker, was born on February 16, 1858 at House No. 33 in Krowica Lasowa, Galicia, Austria and was baptized on February 17 at Reichau, Galicia, Austria (now called Podlesie, Poland). His parents were Johann Jacob Walker and Katharina Elisabeth Walker (born Martin). John married Eva Schick on November 11, 1880 at Reichau Lutheran Church. She was the daughter of Philipp Schick (born July 8, 1839) in Oleszyce, Galicia, Austria and Christina Gabel (born February 10, 1838) in Deutschbach, Galicia, Austria). John and Eva Walker immigrated to Canada on May 13, 1899 aboard the ship Gallia. With them were their eight children. John's brother Karl arrived in Canada at the same time with his family. John and Eva farmed SE 27-17-12 W1 in Tupper District near Plumas, Manitoba in Westbourne Municipality. Eva died on June 2, 1931 at age 70; John died May 9, 1950 at age 92. They had 14 children.
