Bobby Joe Pruitt, 86, went to be with his Savior Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Methodist Hospice House, Memphis, Tennessee. He was born August 26, 1929, in New Albany, MS. From 1948-1949, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Agerholm. In 1949 he was honorably discharged after his older brother was shot in Germany, and his guardians became too ill to look after themselves. Shortly after, he moved to Memphis, where he met and married Martha Joy Kappleman of Lafe, Arkansas in 1951. He joined the Memphis Fire Department in 1951, and served as District Chief before retiring in 1981. Bobby Pruitt also worked as a house painter for years, and was always known for the quality and thoroughness of his work. Although he never advertised, he always had more than enough work to do because of his reputation as an excellent and honest worker. Bobby Pruitt was an extremely generous and selfless giver, compassionate, and always ready to help anyone he saw in need. His family was his priority and he worked extremely hard to provide for all of their needs. He and his wife were both long-time members of Leawood Baptist Church, and were only 9 days away from celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Joy, and three children, Robert (Frances) Pruitt, Peggy (Bill) Burross, and Paul (Naomi) Pruitt. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 5th from noon until the service at 1:00pm, at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel, 7450 Raleigh Millington Rd, Millington, TN 38053 with interment to follow in Memphis Memory Gardens.
