She was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Galesburg, the daughter of William J. and Edith C. (Mallory) Pheiffer. Marie attended schools in Monmouth and Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School. On July 20, 1946, she married G. Leonard Pease and he preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 2012.
Marie worked at JCPenney, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa, YMCA in Monmouth, and Carl Sandburg College as a basketball scorekeeper. She also was a gifted wedding reception coordinator. She worked alongside her husband Leonard at their farm for many years. Marie loved her grandchildren, crocheting, needlepoint, antiques and gardening. She also bowled in leagues for many years with the Winkler Feeds team.
Marie is survived by her children, Lynn (Kris) Pease of Alexis, Loren (Jeanette) Pease of Geneva, Mary Lou Pease of Alexis, and George M. Pease of Monmouth; seven grandchildren, Brock, Lacey, Lori, Robbie, Tina, Tracee and Emma Sells; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond Pheiffer of Galesburg. Numerous nieces and nephews are also surviving. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two brothers.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Norwood Presbyterian Church in Mercer County. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2016, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will follow the Saturday service in Norwood Cemetery. Memorials may be left for Norwood Presbyterian Church or Norwood Cemetery.
