Married Mildred Fredericks on 8 Mar 1932 in Crown Point, Indiana [his father did not approve of her because she was of a different faith, but they loved eachother and he affectionately called her "millie" and she called him "tommy"
Once fell from a radio tower and severely damaged his foot, a visiting German doctor performed a new procedure, so he could still walk again, although he continued to have pain from it all his life. His daughter Margaret recalls, "I only remember we were living in Pullman Mi at the time. Tom Jr was in Fennville High School. Dad was in the hospital for a really long time. They wanted to remove his foot but he wouldn't let them. He had a plate in his foot and it made him limp. It was a hard time for the family with him gone for so long"
His son James recalls,
"We moved from pullman to South Haven.. a 2 story house just east of south haven next to a Ravine., had a barn on the property with farm equipment in it...After that we moved to the house on Dr's Row south of south haven"
Thomas Doyle loved to take apart radios and tv's to see how they worked. He was an avid fan of the Ham Radio and would spend hours communicating with others. He had a special barbeque recipe. He and his wife Mildred often volunteered for Search and Rescue.
His daughter Patricia recalls mentions of her father's mob days in Chicago growing up:
"My dad was Northside with O'Bannon and Hymie and Bugs Moran, I remember them talkin about dad hanging with those guys, but dad got promoted from bootlegging to working in the city for the gang hooking up phone lines for the bookie joints. These mob guys would bring groceries, give us kids money, mom got money too. They took care of their neighbors". The story goes that Thomas and a friend later stole money from one of these bookie joints, and everyone decided to flee the state. Shortly after, the family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan
Thomas suffered about 4 heart attacks before he died
