Lester Lee Decker was born September 29, 1911 in Grayson County near Anneta, Kentucky the son of Frank and Leatha (Napper) Decker. He married Minnie Jones on November 10, 1935 and they farmed most of their life until moving to Salem, Iowa in 1966 where Lester worked at Metro Mail until his retirement. He enjoyed working outside and fishing until his health declined. He moved to the Kalona area in 1995. Lester died peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at his home in rural Kalona following a lengthy illness at the age of 91 years.
Lester is survived by his wife of 67 years, Minnie of Kalona; 3 children - Elaine Boshart and husband Robert of Kalona; Kenneth Decker and wife Meredith of Lee Summit, Missouri; Janice Ray of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren - Rick Boshart of Jackson, New Jersey; Teresa Boshart Yoder of Harrisonburg, Virginia; Lucinda Bockus of Blue Springs, Missouri; Lisa Boshart of Seoul, Korea; Shawn Decker of Des Moines; Angela Bernstein of Burke, Virginia; Marc Ray of Perry; 12 great grandchildren; 2 sisters - Mabel Cook of New Albany, Indiana; Elta Green of Paducah, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Jewell Hayse.
