Barbara "Lorretta" Poston was born on July 21, 1929, at Potlatch, to Zephaniah Jackson Poston and Tinsy Mae Eskridge Poston. She attended grade school and high school in Potlatch, graduating from Potlatch High School in 1947.

Lorretta married Edward V. "Eddie" Vowels on July 3, 1948, at Moscow. The couple lived in Palouse for one year, and then settled in Princeton, where they raised their four children. Eddie and Lorretta co-owned and operated Vowels Farms and Vowels Logging in Princeton for many years. Her husband Edward died in March of 2010. Lorretta has made her home at Pine Ridge Care Center in Spokane Valley for the past six years.

Lorretta was a former member of the Potlatch PTA, the Princeton Ladies Community Club, the Potlatch Junior Miss Committee, the Moscow Hospital Auxiliary, the Draft Horse Pullers Association and the Cayuse Kids Saddle Club. She focused on being a wife, mother and homemaker, but she loved to volunteer. Lorretta received a "Love" Award from the Moscow Hospital auxiliary. Lorretta always put others before herself, and showered her family with unconditional love.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Jackie Strom, Eunice Getz, Jim Poston, Lorraine Cann, Larry Poston, Patty Hill and Bruce Poston.
