He was born August 17, 1928, in Jessamine County to the late Robert Lee Johns, Sr., and Inice (Brumfield) Johns. Tom was a meat cutter for the A&P store for many years.
He was a member of Nicholasville First Assembly, a Army Veteran, a prison chaplin, involved in the local jail ministry and was instrumental in the Men's Ministry Community Prayer Breakfast for many years. Tom also enjoyed playing guitar, singing and woodcutting.
Other family survivors are six children, Barbara Jean (Richard) Short, Kristy Lee (Mike) Nevil, Hervey Gayle (Bette) Johns, Donna Lynn McCray, Mark Allen (Nancy) McCray and Norma Catherine (Edward) Wagoner, twelve grandchildren, Johnny, Chelsey, Joshua, Caleb, Douglas, Virginia, Lizzie, David, Stephen, Wesley, Amy and Jessica, numerous great grandchildren, a brother, Creed (Susan) Johns, and other family members.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Bearers will be Albert Halcomb, Justin Dryden, Bill Nipp, Doug Marshall, Steve Millay, David Millay and Richard Short.
