Glen N. Avey, 97, of rural Ossian, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Lutheran Life Village, Fort Wayne. He was born on June 24, 1918 in Jay County, a son of the late Taylor D. and Katie L. (Michael) Avey. He married Helen Schellhase on February 11, 1945. She preceded him in death on September 27, 1966. He then married Laura "Dotty" Wehage on August 26, 1967. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2008. Glen was a lifelong farmer in Wells County. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ossian and through the years held numerous positions in the church. Glen loved his family, traveling, and was an avid pinochle player. Surviving relatives include four children, David G. Avey of Decatur, Joann M. Nixon of Fort Wayne, Donald A. (Sandra) Avey of Ossian, and Janet L. (Richard) Reinhart of Brownsburg; two step-children, Clora (David) Meyer of Avilla, and John (Susan) Wehage of Van Wert, OH; 10 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and 13 step great grandchildren; and sister, Ruby Ash of Des Moines, IA. In addition to his parents, Helen, and Dotty, Glen was preceded in death by nine siblings, and two grandchildren. Glen was a hardworking man who possessed a quiet strength. He always led by example and will be sorely missed by all. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6514 East 750 North, Ossian, with visitation one hour prior and Rev. Randall Wurschmidt officiating. Visitation will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St., Ossian. Interment will follow services at the church cemetery. Memorial may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
