Aurora Chavez Dulaney
Aurora Dulaney, also affectionately known as "Boba," because a niece couldn't pronounce Aurora, passed from this life on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006. She was born on June 14, 1919, to the late Vidal Chavez and Marcia Griego Chavez in Cerro Montoso, N.M.
She grew up in Heck Canyon, N.M., later moving to Springer. She worked for many years for Floresheim's and it was during this time that she met and married Floyd "Red" Dulaney in 1953. Their union produced three sons: Anthony Ralph; Michael Fabian; and Donald Gerard.
Aurora was well known for her bizcochitos, peanut brittle, homemade bread and many other wonderful dishes that she cooked. She crocheted many afghans, baby sets, booties, caps, towel sets and decorative chilies that were gifts for family and friends.
A special acknowledgement to friend Phyllis Medina who was with Aurora when she died and who Aurora thought of as a daughter. She passed on her crochet talents to Phyllis with much love and affection.
Aurora will be sadly missed by neighbors and friends who helped her when she needed a ride to the doctor, to the grocery store, who looked in on her and checked on her daily by phone or who simply stopped by or called to visit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister Rosanna; husband Red Dulaney; brother Bences Chavez; sister Marcia Esther Vigil; brothers-in-law Charlie Aguilar, Johnny Vigil and great nephew Greg Santistevan.
She is survived by her sons, Anthony Dulaney of Dayton, Ohio; Michael Dulaney of Springer; Donald Dulaney of Carlsbad and fiance Evelyn Jaramillo of Albuquerque; and one grandson, Austin Dulaney of Lubbock, Texas; sister Nellie Aguilar of Albuquerque; sister-in-law Bertha Chavez of Springer and many loving nephews, nieces and friends.
Rosary will be recited at St. Joseph's Church in Springer on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 at St. Joseph's Parish with the Rev. Fr. Daniel Balizan officiating. Interment along side her husband will follow at 3 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Colfax General Long Term Care Facility in Springer.
