The family name is also spelled Beam and was originally Behm.

His obituary in the "Geneva Patrol" said that his name was Henry Napoleon Beem "better know as 'Pole' Beem." In the 1850 Census, however, he is listed as Pohlman. Officially he was Henry P., but clearly called Pole by his intimates.

A death certificate has not been found. A 1909 death certificate for a Henry Beem is for another man.

He is found in the 1850 Census with his widowed mother and siblings in Washington Twp., Morris Co., NJ. He is listed as Pohlman Beam. This was mistranscribed as Johnman on Ancestry.com. There is also another Henry P. Beam listed in another household but that was not him.

He married Rebecca Gray in Tewksbury, NJ 1 Oct 1859.

He is found in the 1860 Census with wife Rebecca and sister Frances in Washington Twp., Morris Co., NJ.

They were in Geneva, Kane Co., IL by 1870. They are found in the 1870 and 1880 Censuses in Geneva.

These plots were listed as being owned by Pat Donahue 1852-1923, an Irish immigrant who is buried nearby. He apparently owned eight gravesite according to cemetery records. Two were used by the Beems and one by him. The relationship is unclear, but in the 1900 Census Donahue lived in the same boarding house as Tom Bullock, the brother of the Beems' son-in-law, John R. Bullock.
