Eslum Monroe Hall is the son of William L. Hall and Susannah Munden. He was born in Preble County, Ohio and died in Brush Prairie, Clark County, WA. He was father to fifteen children with two wive's. His first wife, Mahala Jane Smelser, died after giving birth to their fourth child, after eight years of marriage. She traveled with Eslum from the east to Oregon prior to 1852. The made it to Linn County where he owned a donation land claim. After Mahala died, the children were sent to live with their maternal grandparents, and a few years later, Eslum soon found a new young lady to take as his bride. 02 Nov 1856, is the date that Eslum married 16 year old Mary VanAtta in Linn Co., Oregon. Mary bore Eslum eleven children and they were married until Eslum died.
