Garth worked on the carferries as a college student. He served in the Army AirCorp during World War II. He went back to college and graduated from Michigan State College in 1947, with a degree in Hotel Administration. Garth worked at the Dow Chemical plant in Ludington until he was promoted to the Dow Facility in Midland. He retired from Dow Chemical in 1980. Garth was preceded in death by his mother, Olive; father, Eugene; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Belland. Garth loved being around his family, gardening, tennis, golf, and being a handyman/jack of all trades. He was a lifelong member and graduate of St. Simon Catholic Church.
A Mass and memorial service will be held at St. Simon church at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2, followed by a luncheon at the church. The mass and service will be will be celebrated by Father Wayne Wheeler. The family invites friends and acquaintances to come and celebrate his life. An honor guard burial at Pere Marquette Cemetery.
