Clifford Dean “Gene” Wood, 87, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at Prairie View Cemetery in Tonkawa, Oklahoma with Brother Jerry Moore officiating. Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan.
The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Thursday, June 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Gene was born Oct. 9, 1928 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Hettie Mae (Graves) and Floyd Eugene Wood. He entered the United States Air Force in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1949. Gene married Irma Jacobs Aug. 5, 2011 in Duncan.
He was employed as a truck driver with Lee Way Trucking for 32 years, retiring in the 1990’s. He enjoyed working on old cars and lawn mowers…loved to tinker.
Gene was a member of Harvest Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irma Wood of the home; his children, Joyce Thomas and spouse Danny of Duncan, Bob Wood and spouse Alice of Stroud, Oklahoma, Earileen Tinney and spouse Jim of Duncan, Vicki Horton and spouse Arnie of Pomona, Kansas, Ron Wood and spouse Rose of Ponca City, Oklahoma and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Wood of Alto, Georgia; two brothers, Floyd Wood Jr. and spouse Sharon of Ponca City and Jerry Wood of Ponca City; two sisters, Phyllis Randall and spouse Bob of Sharon, Kansas and Lila Sattre of Ponca City; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Martin Dean Wood; three brothers, Charles Wood, Warren Wood and Paul Wood.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
