RODNEY K. BOWERS — FORT ASHBY — Rodney K. Bowers, 46, of Fort Ashby, passed away at home on Thursday, June 9,
2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Cumberland, MD he was the son of James H. Bowers and Carol A. Ellsworth, both of Fort Ashby.

Rodney was a graduate of Frankfort High School. He had also attended Allegany College, taking courses that assisted him in becoming a licensed plumber/gas fitter.

Rodney belonged to the Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local #489, Cumberland. He took great pride in his maintenance work during his 10 year stint at Western Maryland Health System. He was a joy to be around with his non-stop energy, vibrant personality, and wonderful smile.
Rodney enjoyed being a member of the Quad State Bodgers, where he learned many woodworking techniques. If Rodney saw something he liked, he figured out a way to make it in his workshop. If you mentioned something was not working properly, he would show up and fix it. His skills â€"and?determination were amazing!
He was also a life member of the North American Hunting Club.

From the time he
was a young child, Rodney belonged to the Goal Seekers 4-H Club?and later, became a leader. He also belonged to the Mineral County FFA.

Rodney was a member of the Trinity United Methodist as a child. Later, he and Becky attended the Calvary Assembly of God, The Grace Place.

In addition to his parents, Rodney is survived by his loving and devoted wife of ten years, Rebecca (Lewis) Bowers; his son, Colby G. Bowers and wife Alicia,
Keyser; three grandchildren, Sawyer G. Bowers, Sophie M. Bowers, and Zoey G.
Huffman; two brothers, Brian Bowers and wife Page, Frostburg, MD, and Darrel
C. Bowers and wife Lisa, Fort Ashby; his stepmother, Mary Bowers; his mother in-law, Harriet Lewis; brother in-law, Isaac Lewis; sister in-law, Sarah Royal and husband Joey; and, three nephews, Ty Bowers, Wyatt Royal, and Grandin Lewis and many special friends, including Marissa Lewis and Buddy Taylor.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort
Ashby, on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 6-9 PM and on Saturday, June 18, 2016
from 10-11AM at Calvary Assembly of God, Fort Ashby.

A celebration of Rodney's life will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11
AM at Calvary Assembly of God.
Memorial contributions may be made to either 4-H Goal Seekers Club (c/o Harriet
Lewis, 54 Fort Ashby Road, Fort Ashby, WV 26719); Susan Cohan Colon
Foundation, (201 N. Charles St., Suite 2404, Baltimore, MD 21201); or to
WMHS Foundation (P.O. Box 539, Cumberland, MD 21501-0539) in order that an area of the hospital may be named in Rodney's honor.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Faye Yin, Dr. Scott
Watkins, Dr. John Pappas, the staff of the WMHS Schwab Family Cancer Center,
and his special hospice nurse, Kelly Pennington, for the kind, compassionate care they provided to Rodney.
