"Mrs. Margaret H. Martin, 82, W707 fifth, longtime Spokane and area resident and former wife of the late Gov. Clarence D. Martin, died today in a Spokane hospital. She had been hospitalized since May 11. Mrs. Martin, the former Margaret Mulligan, was born Jan. 31, 1886 in Minnesota and came here before the turn of the century with her parents. She and the late Gov. Martin, who died here Aug. 11, 1955, at the age of 69, were married in Spokane in 1907. They were divorced in 1943. Martin, the former mayor of Cheney and head of the F.M. Martin Grain & Milling Co. which he helped his father establish in the 1900s in Cheney, served as governor from 1933 to 1941. Mrs. Martin was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Cathedral, St. Monica's Guild, the Spokane Branch of the English-Speaking Union, the Spokane Club and the Early Birds Breakfast Club. She is survived by two sons, Clarence Daniel Jr., Santa Monica, Calif., and Frank M., a Spokane attorney, 10 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Grace Hott, Santa Monica. Her eldest son, William F. Martin, died Feb. 5, 1967, in Seattle at the age of 57, following a two-year illness with cancer. He had been associated with the grain department of Francis I. Dupont, Seattle, and had been manager of the Martin Grain and Milling Co. in Cheney before it was sold to the National Biscuit Co. in 1942. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Smith's. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral with the Rev. Carl A. Bauer officiating. Entombment will be at Riverside." Contributor: Grant (50447565)
