Mary Whitner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Whitner, was born January 4, 1837, near Hargars, Maryland, and departed from this life April 8, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clark south of Ellston, aged 94 years, three months and four days. At an early age she moved with her parents to Iowa, near the city of Des Moines.
In 1860 she became a member of the Christian church and has always been a willing worker for God's cause. In 1855 she united in marriage with Abraham Schock. To this union were born thirteen children, Mrs. Hattie March of California, Mrs. Minnie O'Conner of Fort Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Taylor of Mount Ayr, Mrs. Lovina Clark of Kellerton. Nine preceded her in death, Ellie Arnold, Mabel Byers, Luella Taylor and Nellie Doss; five preceding her at infancy.
She leaves to mourn her death four daughters, 49 grandchildren, 106 great grandchildren, 39 great great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at High Point Friday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. L. G. Wolfe. Interment was in the Johnston cemetery.
