"MRS. CHABOT PASSES AWAY
Philanthropic Labors of Noble Woman Are At An End

Mrs. Emelie Chabot, of Oakland, Passes from this life Sunday, after an illness of three weeks. Her death followed an operation which was performed at Fabiola Hospital Friday.

Mrs. Chabot, whose Summer home, Villa Remi, is near St. Helena, is one of the most widely known women in the bay cities, was one of the founders of Fabiola Hospital, and was a woman beloved for her broad sympathies and philanthropic generosity.

The passing of Mrs. Chabot at the age of 67 marks the end of a life which has been unselfishly devoted to the amelioration of suffering and the news of her death brought mourning to many in all ranks of life. Beside her connection, with Fabiola Hospital, she was the founder of the Chabot Home and active in other lines of public welfare work.

Mrs. Chabot was born in Lyons, France and was brought to California at the age of four by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Martin. In 1874 she married Remi Chabot, who together with his brother, Anthony Chabot, founded the Chabot Observatory and organized the Peoples Water Company. Her entire life was spent in Oakland and vicinity and her interests were always centered in her home city.

Mrs. Chabot has been identified with the Fabiola Hospital ever since its inception and was president of the board of directors at the time of her death. The end came after an operation which was performed in the ward of the institution to which she was especially devoted, and last breath was drawn within its walls.

An active member of many civic and charitable societies, Mrs. Chabot was untiring in her activities. She was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and an executive officer of several of the auxiliary organizations. Among her best known philanthropic works was the establishment of the Chabot Home.

Mrs. Chabot is survived by four daughters - Mrs. Robert S. Knight, of Los Gatos, Mrs. John Henry Dieckmann, Mrs. James P. H. Dunn and Mrs. Leon Bocqueraz, of Oakland.

The funeral took place rom the family residence, 250 Perry Street, Oakland, Tuesday. Rev. Father Patrick J. Keane, administrator of St. Francis de Sales Catholic church officiated."
