He was vice president of the West End Football Club. On the 9th June 1874 the Geelong Advertiser reported that J.Treacey & Co. were awarded a medal at the London International Exhibition of 1873 for his contributions to brewing. He accompanied his sister Mary to Wagga when she entered the convent. In that same year 1877, John Treacey won an award at the Philadelphia Centennial for Ales and Portels.
