Eugene Willis Jorgenson was born June 6, 1926, in Nevada Township, Mower County, Minn., to Theodore D. and Dora E. (Nelson) Jorgenson. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, serving his country from 1944 to 1946, where he was an aerial photographer over North Africa. On Jan. 25, 1947, Eugene Jorgenson married Betty Winslow at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
A lifelong Austin resident, Gene was a retired Hormel Corporation employee and a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where he ushered, drove for Wee Learning and the van on Sundays, as well as serving on the Board of Deacons. He was a member of American Legion Post 91 and the Sons of Norway. Gene loved golfing and bowling, and earlier liked square dancing and traveling. Gene was a kind and generous husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; children: Jayne Noble, of Spring Lake Park, Minn.; Nancy Jorgenson, of Blaine, Minn.; Gregg (Gwen) Jorgenson, of Decorah, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters: Carola Lang, of Mesa, Ariz.; Iona (Ben) Lorenz, of Sacramento, Calif.; Darlene Fox, of Salt Lake City, Utah; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one grandson.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Music will be by Emilie Noble, soloist, and Neal Erickson, organist. Interment will be at Six Mile Grove Cemetery in Lyle at a later date. Friends may call at the church one half hour before the service at the church.
The family prefers memorials to St. Olaf Lutheran Church Capital Campaign or to the donor's choice.
