Jazz Musician. A drummer, he will be remembered as a longtime member of the "Dave Brubeck Quartet" from 1978 until Brubeck's death in 2012. Born Randall Hodges Jones, he began playing the drums at the age of sixteen and was initially influenced by rock and roll music. He acquired experience as a performer with rock and roll bands which toured Germany and England, prior to his break in the industry, when he landed a spot in Maynard Ferguson's band. Jones recorded on several of Ferguson's albums. When Jones joined the "Dave Brubeck Quartet", he had the difficult task of succeeding the legendary Joe Morello on drums. It would not be long before Jones became a highly-recognizable performer who was known for his memorable drum solos. His work can be heard on numerous albums of Brubeck.
