Christopher & Pauline Gnoth were married on August 13, 1877 in St Joseph County, Indiana. Together they had 11 children. He was a farmer and with the family they owned a farm on Gard's Prairie Road in Volinia Township, Cass County, Michigan. Years later Christopher and Pauline ended up divorcing and he purchased five acres of land near Niles, Michigan and started building a small 18 x 24 one story bungalow. He was just finishing up his new residence when he passed away.

Also, he always signed his name 'Christoph Engel' on many documents that have been found. The rest of the family always spelled the name E-N-G-L-E!
