'Funeral of Christopher Engel Held This Morning From Catholic Church - Burial at Calvary'
The body of Christopher Engel arrived in Dowagiac this morning from South Bend at 9:40 o'clock. Owing to poor train connections, the body was brought from South Bend by auto and was accompained by two large auto loads of relatives. The funeral was held from Holy Maternity Church at 10 o'clock. The Requiem services were conducted by Rev. Fr. Wall.
Mr. Engel was a well known German resident of Volinia Township, and had been a member of the Dowagiac Catholic parish from its early days. He has been known to drive a distance of nearly 12 miles, regularly, regardless of weather, in order to attend services.
Burial took place in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives who accompanied his body here from South Bend, were Pauline Engle; Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Gnoth, daughter Mary and sons Joe and William; Mrs. Bernard Solomon, Mrs. Mary Eichstadt, Mrs. U Behrman, Mr. and Mrs. John Cheda and Mrs. and Mrs. Steven Cheda and family, most of whom reside in South Bend.
