Death of James E. McSurely
James E. McSurely, who was born and reared in Hillsboro, died Wednesday of last week in Mercy Hospital, Hamilton.
A week before he had undergone an operation for removal of gall stone and reports were that he was satisfactory. A
change for the worse came suddenly and he passed away Wednesday.
James Edwin McSurely, son of Dr. William J. McSurely of Oxford was born in the Presbyterian manse, Hillsboro on
August 20, 1874. He attended Miami University and the Cincinnati Law School, having been graduated from the latter institution.
For about one year he practiced law in Indianapolis, Indiana, then he returned to Oxford where he was engaged in the grocery
business for several years. In 1908, he sold out and accepted a traveling position. At the time of his death he was a
representative of the Ouerbacker Coffee Co. of Louisville, Kentucky.
On October 30, 1901, he was married to Miss Fekin Faye Walker of Hillsboro whose death occurred on April 18, 1911.
Mr. McSurely was a member of the Oxford Lodge, F & A. M., Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Sigma Chi fraternity. He
was a man of quiet but extremely pleasing disposition, honest and upright in all his dealings and his passing will be mourned
by a host of friends.
Surviving are two sons, James E. and Alex W. the latter a post graduate student in the University of Missouri. Also, the aged
father, Dr. William J. McSurely and a sister, Miss Ella G. McSurely of Oxford and a brother, Judge Wm. H. McSurely of Chicago.
Private funeral services were held at the McSurely home in Oxford on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock; burial in the Oxford Cemetery.
