CARENCRO- Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette for James Chiasson, age 80, who passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 4:38 a.m. at his residence in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro.
Musical selections will be provided by Ron Moreau, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ.
Mr. Chiasson was a native of Carencro and a resident of Lafayette. He graduated from Carencro High School and SLI, now, UL, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He was employed with Guaranty Bank for 30 years. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette. Mr. Chiasson served his country in the United States Army National Guard. Following his retirement, he spent his time raising cattle, building things, fishing, crabbing and barbecuing for his family.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Pearl Chiasson; one son, Randy James Chiasson and his wife, Yvette, of Lafayette; four daughters, Cynthia C. Gary and husband, Ron, of Lafayette, Cheryl C. Sherwood and husband, Gary of Carencro, Deborah C. Guidry and husband, Freddie, Francine C. Welty, and husband, Reggie, all of Lafayette; eleven grandchildren, Amanda Gary, Stephanie Gary and Sean Gary, Meagan Sherwood Bourgeois and husband, Jeff, Sarah Sherwood, Jenah Guidry, Evan Guidry, Heather Chiasson Trahan and husband, Tim, Kayla Chiasson, Olivia Welty, Jake Welty, Shantel Sherwood and Brent Sherwood; and four great-grandchildren, Ava Bourgeois, Charly Bourgeois, Autumn Trahan and Zyar Gearen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Chiasson and the former Utah Domingue.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Tim Trahan, Randy Chiasson, Gary Sherwood, Sean Gary, Freddie Guidry and Reggie Welty. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Welty, Evan Guidry, Brent Sherwood and Ron Gary.
