Joe Gessiness passed away peacefully on June 11th, 2016 after a long battle with various illnesses. He is survived by his wife, Helen Peters Gessiness, a resident of East Bernstadt, and their daughter, Becky Matthews and son-in-law, David Matthews who reside in Dallas, TX.
Joe led a full and productive life. He grew up in Covington, KY. He served two and a half years in the military as Army military police in Europe. When he returned from his duty, he studied law at the University of Kentucky. Later Joe received a BS degree from Indiana University. He transitioned his work into Finance and worked as one of the seven original founders of Ford Motor Credit. From there he worked at General Motors, Seeburg, Starcraft and Citi Bank in various leadership roles.
Joe met Helen in Hamilton, Ohio at a YMCA/YWCA dance. They were married in 1959. They moved for the various jobs including Michigan, New York, Chicago and Elkhart, IN.
When they retired in 1989 Joe and Helen spent half the year in Gainesville, Florida and the other half in East Bernstadt, and did numerous volunteer activities including Gainesville police and XYZ.
Mr. Gessiness will be laid to rest at AR Dyche Memorial Park with a private ceremony at Bowling Funeral Home on Mon., June 13th, 2016.
