Mrs. Madison was driving a team for her husband, who had gone ahead to open a gate, when it became unruly and ran away, throwing her upon some rocks, fatally hurting her. She was a member of one of the most prominent of Lawrence County's pioneer families, a noble Christian woman, and greatly beloved throughout all the countryside. Services were conducted by Rev. Gray of Columbia. She left no children.
