William Mack Crosthwaite departed this life aged 85 years 4 months and 27 days. In early life he became a member of the Methodist church but in 1861 he joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church and at once was ordained Ruling Elder therein, in which capacity he served until his death, his term of service covering a period of 54 years. He left behind him his wife aged 81 years, two sons and three daughters, and numerous grand children and great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H.A. May assisted by Rev. J.W. Flowers and the remains were laid to rest in the Pleasant Garden cemetery in sight of the spot where he settled 75 years ago. His married life of nearly sixty-one years is the remarkable and rare record of this couple. Almost up to the time of his death Mr. Crosthwaite had been active, able to look after his work, and a noble hearted citizen, whose life of loyal christian service has been an example of untold benefit to the generations with which it came in touch. Such men do not die, but live on and on, in the helpful immortality of a well spent life on earth, as well as in the great eternity of God.
