John E. (Buster) Starling, 90, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Lakeland FL Regional Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1925 in Lakeland to the late Jesse E. and Flora Richardson Starling and raised in the Manning community of Baker County. He attended school in Macclenny before moving back to Lakeland and served in the Navy on the USS Enterprise that fought in many of the key Pacific theater battles of World War II. He was a heavy equipment operator for Mobil, a member of the First Baptist Church of Bradley and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Starling and daughters Marie Starling and Tammy Starling.
Mr. Starling is survived by son Donald Starling and daughter Rebecca Starling, both of Lakeland; brother Carroll Starling and wife Sharon of Mulberry, FL, and sister Doris Perser of Gig Harbor, WA; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home. Interment was at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow.
