Roy Larue "Mickey" McPherson
LaRue "Mickey" McPherson, a long-time resident of Boundary County, died March 27 in Community Hospital.
Mr. McPherson was born May 24, 1894, in Tomahawk Lake, Wisc., the son of Roderick and Kathleen McPherson. He moved with his parents to Bonners Ferry in 1897.
He married the former Mildred Dunning on February 22, 1918. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last month. Shortly after his wedding, Mr. McPherson entered military service, serving with the thirteenth ammunition train until his discharge, when he returned to Bonners Ferry, working around town and in the woods near Elk, Wash.
When his father became ill, Mr. and Mrs. McPherson took over operation of the family transfer business. After the elder McPherson died in 1924, the couple operated the transfer business until it was sold in 1942.
Mr. McPherson served during World War II as chief clerk of the ration board and went later to work for the city of Bonners Ferry. He retired in 1959.
He also served as a member of the Selective Service Board until 1960 and was a member of the museum board of directors, the historical society and the Restorium. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion and served as commander in 1930. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Number 43, AF and AM, and served as Worshipful Master in 1937.
Mr. McPherson is survived by his wife; a son, Bud; four grandsons, Roderick, Gordon, Michael and Allen; and one grandson, Curtis.
