Aseneth Jane Bell was the third of seven children born to Levi Bell (1812-1893) and his first wife, Mary Matilda Killough (1816-1856), and the eldest to survive childhood. Aseneth married Caleb Matthias Barnhardt Goodnight (1837-1916) on 16 Dec. 1858, the same day her father married his second wife, Mary Jane Van Pelt (1831-1905).
