He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Wheeling, W.Va. He was the son of Charles Edward and Elizabeth (Van-Dyne) Winesburg and husband of Betty J. (Phillips) Winesburg of Jenny Lind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Winesburg and Elizabeth (VanDyne) Winesburg; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Winesburg; and four sisters, Dorothy Swingle, Anna Mae Yensen, Mary Denham and Ruth Woods.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, having a long and fruitful life together, Betty J. (Phillips) Winesburg; a son, Charles E. Winesburg Jr. and his wife Peggy; grandchildren, Richard and Todd Winesburg; and great-grandchildren, Griffin, Morgan, Samuel and Carter; a son, Gary P. Winesburg and his wife LaDonne; grandchildren, Brandon Winesburg and Stephanie Portman; stepgrandchildren, Ben, Seth and Josh Nordin; and stepgranddaughters, Joy, Samantha and Ruby; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Addison and Phillip; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was a longtime member of Goddard United Methodist Church, serving as an usher and trustee. He was a retired bricklayer, holding a Gold Card representing 50-plus years of active work. He was a Army veteran, serving in North Africa, Italy, France, Germany and Austria during World War II.
Service will be at Goddard United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday with burial to follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
