Nathaniel Lee of New Columbus, Owen County, Kentucky as a distiller of Bourbon whiskey. He reported 211 barrels in October 1, 1882 and on October 1, 1884 he reported 119 barrels of whiskey.In 1893 Nathaniel's Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey won the gold metal at the Worlds Fair in Chicago.
Nathaniel W. Lee is buried in the New Columbus Cemetery, in Owen County, Kentucky along side his three wives and many of his twenty children. His tombstone, which is very unusual, resembles a large tree trunk standing upright. It is said that a bottle of his prize winning whiskey is enclosed within the tombstone.
