Harry died after an illness of several months at 70 years of age. He married Matilda Lark on Christmas Day, 1889, in the District of Columbia. He was the father of 8 sons (one died in infancy) and 4 daughters.

At the time of his death, he conducted a grocery business at 128 Pattison Street just up the street from where he lived. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Paddletown and was the last survivor of the group that built Bethany Moravian Church (original charter members).
