He moved with his family to Fairview, Oklahoma, in the early thirties. At the age of eight years, he lost his mother. The four years before his father remarried were difficult years for the family. At the age of thirteen, he felt the call of God and was born again. Min. Dan Smith baptized him into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on May 25, 1941. He was faithful to his vows until his death.
During his teenage years, he spent several years living and working with the Tobe Boehs family, who had a machinery dealership and a wheat harvest crew. On March 9, 1952, he was united in marriage to Delores Jantz. They lived at Fairview, Oklahoma, the first fifteen years of their married life. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter. They moved to Walker, Missouri, in May of 1967, where they made their living in farming and dairying. In the early eighties, Mother's health began to fail. She passed away on December 19, 1986, leaving him very lonely. Dad was again blessed with a loving companion when he married Betty Redger on November 4, 1989. They enjoyed the blessings of life together for seventeen years until she suddenly passed away on November 11, 2006, again leaving him very lonely.
Dad was a quiet, patient man. He was a hard worker, teaching us the value of good work ethics and honesty. He enjoyed traveling and meeting people. He had a spiritual concern for his children and grandchildren, praying often for them.
Those left to cherish fond memories are his two sons, Everett and wife, Pat, Buhl, Idaho, and Ron and wife, Bonnie, Walker, Missouri; one daughter, Karen and husband, Maynard Schmidt, Scotia, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence and wife, Celesta, Brooksville, Mississippi; one sister, Sadie Koehn, New Plymouth, Idaho; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Koehn, Moundridge, Kansas, and Joan Koehn, El Dorado Springs, Missouri; one stepbrother, Albert Koehn, Artois, California; one stepsister, Pauline Jantzen, Scotia, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
