Gilbert A. (Gil) Paul Gone Fishing... 3/29/1921 - 10/29/2006 Gil was one of a kind; Jack of all trades and Master of them all! He was born the only child of Winifred and Arthur Paul in Tacoma, WA on March 29, 1921. The family moved to Fox Island soon after. Gil graduated from Stadium High School and joined the Army, serving his country with distinction Stateside and in the Philippines. In the Philippines, although in the Army, his outstanding seamanship and superior boat handling skill saw him skipper a PT boat assigned as an armed charter boat for general officers immediately following WWII. Gil joined KTNT-TV as a maintenance engineer upon retiring from the service and retired from KSTW-TV in 1984. He had many interests, but his passion was fishing. Gil had a commercial trolling license for years, fishing out of LaPush and Westport. In later years, he converted a bus into a luxury motor home and toured extensively, but his first love was always fishing! Gil passed away October 29, 2006 at The Cloisters of DeLand Assisted Living Facility in DeLand, Florida. A tremendous amount of gratitude goes to the staff who went the extra mile in their care and concern for him. Gil was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Martha Carlson Paul. Gil is survived by stepson Nils Carlson of Vancouver, BC, and step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Gil will be remembered by his many friends for his unstinting loyalty and giving nature. His was a life well spent, and those of us who knew him will always be better for it. Gil requested no service. His ashes are to be spread at sea and a marker placed at his father's grave at the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Gig Harbor, WA. So long, dear friend. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
