Clyde L. Long, 77, of Kansas City passed away on October 21, 2015. He was born on February 6, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and grew up in northwest Arkansas where he graduated from high school.
Clyde entered the Navy in 1955 and served as active duty enlisted during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon leaving the military he lived in Key West, Florida where he owned a restaurant for a number of years.
A short time later he relocated to the Kansas City area where he worked in construction replacing sidewalks and curbs before again becoming a small business owner in construction. He owned and operated Pioneer Asphalt and then transitioned to Pioneer Excavating, covering a span of thirty plus years. He was involved in much of the expansion and growth of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area throughout this time.
Clyde was a loving father, brother, grandfather and uncle. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Violet Long, his first wife Earlene, brother-in-law Jim Penix, and granddaughter Emily. He is survived by his four children, Shannon Ostdiek (Ken), Joshua Long, Joel Long (Patti), and Danielle Long (Dennis), his sister Betty Penix, good friend Iola Krause, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, October 24 at 1:00 PM at the American Legion Post 370, 7500 W. 75th St., Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
