Lloyd Root, 81, former longtime Jackson County resident, died Jan 6 at his home in Shasta, Calif.
He was born May 15, 1900, in Spokane, Wash., and moved to southern Oregon in the early 1920s, making his home in Medford and Central Point for more than 50 years. He was a self-employed carpenter.
Later he was a commercial fisherman, operating out of Crescent City, Calif., for eight years. In 1970 he returned to Medford, living here for two years.
He and his wife, Dorothy, who survives, traveled extensively and frequently visited the Rogue Valley.
Other survivors include one son, Robert Root, Portland; three daughters, Barbara Jean Murphy, La Grande, [and two others still living and unnamed here]; three brothers, nine grandchildren, and five great grand children.
The service was held Friday in Redding, Calif., with the Rev. Atlee Bahler, retired minister of the Shasta Community Church, officiating. Cremation followed.
