David Edwin Zellers married Amanda J. Arthur on May 2, 1871 in Avilla, Jasper County, MO.


The David Zellers' farm was near Forest Mill on Spring River, 6 miles east of Carthage, MO. David and his father ran the saw and grist mills. The ruins of the mill are west of the bridge across Spring River on County Road 85.

Organized at Sedalia, Warrensburg, and Otterville, August 10 to September 17, 1864. Attached to District of St. Lois, Missouri, Depatment of Missouri, to December, 1864. Unattached, 4th Division, 23rd Army Corps, Army, Ohio to March, 1865.

Service- Moved from Warrensburg, Mo, to Jefferson City, Mo., October 1, 1864. Price's attack on Jefferson City on October 7. Duty was at Jefferson City until December. Moved to Nashville. Tennessee. Battle of Nashville December 15-16. Garrison on Guard duty at Spring Hill, Tennessee, until January 5, 1865. Moved to Johnsonville , Tennessee, January 5-13, and duty there until February 20. Moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Mustered out on March 6, 1865. Companies "C" and "D" transferred to 50th Missouri Infantry and companies "G" and "H" to 48th Missouri Infantry.

Regiment lost during service: Four enlisted men killed or mortally wounded and thirty-two enlistend men lost to disease.
