John ran the saw and grist mills at Forest Mill, six miles east of Carthage, MO on Spring River, with his son, David. The ruins of the mill are west of the bridge across Spring River on County Road 85.
John's parents were Ephriam Zellers born 04/16/1797 Preble County, Ohio, died around 1828 Preble County, Ohio and Katherine (Bosworth) Zellers born 01/27/1799 Washington County, Kentucky, died 02/01/1852 Jasper County, Missouri. Katherine was the daughter of John and Mary Bosworth. After Ephriam's death, Katherine married George W. Sly on March 22, 1836 in Fountain County, Indiana. George's first wife, Patience (Gordon) Sly and his second wife, Mary (Pogue) Sly had both died. The combined Zellers and Sly families came to Jasper County, Missouri in 1840.
After the deaths of their spouses, John's mother married Miley's father, but of course John and Miley were not related.
