He enlisted in the Army on April 15, 1941, prior to the war, in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textiles and also as Single, without dependents.

Charles was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
