Gloria Theresa (DiPucchio) Williamson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, in the presence of her loving family.
Gloria was married to Donald Williamson in 1953, a former pugilist in the City during the 1940’s and 50’s. Together they raised three children in the Newton Square neighborhood, where they lived for many years on Longfellow Road, in a two-family home which they shared with her sister Pauline’s family.
Gloria was born in Worcester in 1921 to parents, Domenic and Antoinette DiPucchio, who arrived here from Italy prior to World War One. She grew up in the Shrewsbury street area, attending Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and graduating from Commerce High School before starting her career as a secretary to Doctors Francis H. Carr and Edmund Croce.
Following her marriage she attended services at the Blessed Sacrament Parish each and every Sunday for many years. Late in her career she went on to work with the State of Massachusetts Office for Children on Grove Street before retiring in 1997, at the age of 76. Her strong work ethic, charm, unassuming beauty and friendly personality endeared her to all she came in contact with during her long life. And if those qualities didn’t win you over her incredible lasagna and meatballs would.
She was a dedicated mother who loved her kids and during some trying times she always put them first and for that they are forever grateful. Her long, happy and productive life was only slightly marred toward the end as she endured Alzheimer’s while somehow retaining her easygoing ways and friendly disposition to all those around her. The family is grateful to the staff at the Golden Living Center on Mill Street in Worcester for the loving and attentive care they provided to her in her final years. Thank You GLC!
Gloria is survived by her children, Richard Williamson and his fiancée Catharine Vangos, Dianne Williamson, and Scott Williamson and his wife Noriah; and her grandchildren, Danielle Williamson, Nicole Williamson and her husband Luke Henshaw, and Andrew Williamson. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald in 2005. Although their marriage was rocky at times, they overcame their differences and after a few years of separation, and to the surprise of everyone, they reconciled and lived happily together at Longfellow Road during his final years. She is predeceased by her sisters, Pauline Eramo and Mary Buffone, and her brother, The Reverend Anthony DiPucchio.
Calling Hours will be held this Friday, May 6, from 11AM to 12:30PM, in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a Memorial Service at the conclusion of Calling Hours at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the St. Johns Cemetery.
