The son of Charles & Mary (Carson) Adamson, he is in the 1860 census living in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, but was a resident of Harrisburg in 1863 where he was working as a telegrapher in 1863.
As a Civil War veteran, he first served as a private with Co. E. 19th Pennsylvania Militia September 17 - 27, 1862, during the Antietam crisis, then served as a private with Co. I, 34th Pennsylvania Militia, June 29 - August 10, 1863, during the Gettysburg crisis. He last enlisted in Philadelphia July 11, 1864, mustered into federal service there July 12 as a private with Co. I, 192nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company November 11, 1864.
After the war, he spent many summers in Gettysburg and became a member of the Skelly Post No. 9, G.A.R.. He died there from a "cerebral hemorrhage." One Skelly Post member accompanied his remains to Phoenixville, and a group attended the funeral.
