Three college students were killed and one was critically injured in a fiery crash early Monday in Nacogdoches, police say.

Police say that at about 1:30 a.m., 20-year-old Chace Scruggs was driving east on Starr Avenue when his 2007 Dodge Charger left the road and struck several trees. The vehicle caught fire and burned.

Someone in a second vehicle that was behind the Charger called 911 after coming upon the accident, police said.

Scruggs, of Seabrook, along with his passengers Rajeen “Ray” Williams, 21, of Burleson, and Geena Zarick, 18, of Flower Mound, were pronounced dead at the scene, KXXV-TV reported.

A fourth person, 21-year-old Trent Haynes, reportedly of Red Oak, was taken in serious condition to a local hospital.

All four were currently or recently enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State University.
