Daniel Kurt Lambert, age 58, of Elgin, TX, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2016 in Austin, TX. Daniel was born in Abilene, TX on May 22, 1957 and was raised in Baird and Abilene.

In 1972, Daniel was awarded his Eagle Scout award, which was signed by President Richard M. Nixon.

In 1975 he graduated from Cooper High School, then attended Abilene Christian College and San Angelo State University before moving to Austin, TX.

In 1984 Daniel was awarded his Associate of Applied Science in Data Processing from Austin Community College. While he was in college, Daniel met and married the love of his life, and soul mate, Carol Ann. Together they attended St. Edwards University, and in 1989 he received his Bachelors of Business Administration. Daniel was also a member of The Sons of the Republic of Texas awarded in 1990.

Daniel started his career as a Documentation Clerk at the Texas State Air Control Board, and continued his employment as a Programmer, Database Administrator, Manager and IT Project Manager. Daniel continued working for the same agency throughout its name change to TNRCC and TCEQ, which is where he retired after 28 years of service. After a very short retirement, Daniel went back to work for the Texas State Railroad Commission, where he was employed as an IT Project Manager for the past 3 years.

Daniel and Carol had many wonderful life experiences together including traveling to many of the nation's parks. One of their most favorite adventures was driving from Austin to Denali National Park in Alaska, by way of the Alcan and back. They also traveled to Katmailand in Alaska and walked among the grizzly bears. Other famous trips included Big Bend, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Arches, Monument Valley, Big Sur, the Badlands, the Grand Canyon, and of course Montana, which was their home away from home.

Daniel was a very intelligent man, who was kind, loving, adventurous, stubborn, and had a really great sense of humor. He loved all animals, and they knew, because they loved him too. He also had a green thumb and healing hands. Some of his favorite hobbies were gardening, canning, making and fixing things, and just working in and around his garage. Carol, his soul mate, always called him "Mr. Wonderful"- and he was. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his spouse and soul mate of 36 years, Carol Ann Gillberg of Elgin, TX, his brother Stephen C. Lambert and his wife Jaimie Lambert of Fort Worth, TX, cousins David and Carol Panther also of Fort Worth, TX, his aunt Margaritte Lambert of Abilene, TX, and his special pet friends Taz, Victoria, Felix, Blind Kitty, Simba, Orso, Bobby, Daisy, Shamrock, Sandy, and Newt.

Daniel is preceded in death by his Mother, Mary Margaret McFarland Lambert, and his Father, Jimmy D. Lambert both of Abilene, TX.

The family would also like to say a special thank-you to the wonderful care that the following doctors provided to Daniel during his life in trying to preserve his sight:
Special thanks to Dr. Gary Rylander, Dr. Brian Berger, Dr. Armitage Harper of Austin, TX. And Dr. Alice Matoba of Houston, TX.

Memorial in Daniel's honor is pending
